Why It Matters
There is scientific consensus that climate change is happening at a dangerous rate because of human activity on our planet.
The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report that came out in late 2018, and is summarized in the New York Times, says that we have about 10-12 years to dramatically change our lifestyle as a species in order to prevent irreversible, catastrophic changes to our environment and the way we live. This means there is still time to fix things! The US created a report with similar findings.
There is no meaningful, remaining scientific debate about human caused climate chaos (watch this video!) and we are the only industrialized country in the world whose left and right wings do not agree on the problem. Our arguments in this country (if we must have them!) should be about what to do to fix the problem, not whether it IS a problem.
The solution is a combination of many things: industry, corporations, individuals, policy makers and governments all taking collective action NOW. With an unstable environment, ALL other issues become more complicated to solve.
Without our actions, change will not happen. We have the technology, the character and the resources to come together and provide a wonderful future for ourselves, our children and grandchildren. If we act NOW, we can change our future into something beautiful.
